Mommy-to-be Zainab ordered her baby shower cake with a very specific design in mind. She brought us a photo and asked us to replicate the design. No problem, we told her. But we mentioned that the clothes on the clothesline would differ slightly from what was in her photo. So we had a little bit of creative freedom to create baby shirt designs. 🙂
We started by making the baby carriage out of gumpaste. We skewered it so that it could stand upright in the top of the cake.
We also made the bow out of gumpaste so that it would hold its shape.
Both tiers are strawberry buttercream cake. We covered each tier in fondant and set to work on the all of the details.
Those little shirts were cut one by one from fondant, with fondant detailing like flower appliques and Peter Pan collars.
The ribbon roses and their green leaves were also formed from fondant.
Everything on this cake is edible.
Welcome to world to babies Leya and Lara!
