Roger Hargreaves created Little Miss Sunshine way back in 1981, and I’m so happy to see Hargreaves’s Mr. Men and Little Miss characters are still favourites with the newest generation of little ones.
Sofia’s mommy came in and requested a Little Miss Sunshine themed cake for her daughter’s sixth birthday. With a theme and a budget, I was able to create a cake especially for Sofia.
I designed the cake to look like Hargreaves’ cover of his Little Miss Sunshine book.
Little Miss Sunshine is the actual cake (a marbled chocolate cake). We covered her with fondant and then applied all of the fondant details. We drew the lines with edible black food colouring. Then we covered the board in white fondant, cut out black fondant letters for the title and hand wrote the Happy Birthday in food colouring.
I can see why Sofia’s mommy chose this character for her daughter’s theme; the six-year-old birthday girl resemble Little Miss Sunshine in so many ways: the big smile, the braided hair, the few freckles across the nose…Little Miss Sofia is all sunshine!
Happy Birthday Sofia! Your cake was soooo much fun to make! We hope you and your friends enjoyed it!
